Brisbane Trip 2022

After almost 2 months since going on my Brisbane trip I am finally now posting the photos. Life has been hectic with work, holidays and trying to finalise the details and bookings for my next adventure which begins in 6 days. Although this is way past due, I thought better late than never so here's a rundown on my holiday to Brisbane with 2 of my friends Molly and Adam.

To celebrate finishing the first year of my degree I decided to plan a trip to Brisbane for a week, as a way of being able to relax after all the hard work that I put into the year. We booked an amazing apartment with Brisbane Sky Tower and ended up getting one of the top rooms with a fabulous view for quite an affordable price. Although we hired a car we mostly opted to walk if the destinations was within 30 minutes from our stay to avoid being lazy. We made a rule to only try places for food that we did not have in Perth, so no McDonalds, KFC etc.

On our first day we decided to head to the Queensland Museum which was relatively the same size as the Perth Museum, but it was still a nice experience. We then headed to GOMA (The Gallery of Modern Art) which was such a breath taking experience seeing all the different art pieces on display and trying to guess what we thought some of the abstract pieces portrayed. To finalise our day we ended up stopping at Betty’s Burgers as we had missed lunch and it was now close to dinner time. Betty’s Burgers was actually quite affordable, and our food was delicious. The service was also really great from the 2 girls who were working there at the time.

Our second day involved us driving to Officeworks to get a few supplies and then heading to VEND Marketplace. I found out about VEND on a TikTok travel account and am honestly so glad I did as it was such a cute experience. We started off by first grabbing food at the little restaurant/café they had there which had quite a variety of food. Once our bellies were full we started walking around the place looking at all the different stalls and picking up multiple things that we liked. From there we headed to the Mount Bootha- Botanic Gardens where we did quite a long walk around. They had different trails and gardens to explore although some of the garden houses did close at 4pm so we had to run between places quickly. The Bonsai house, Japanese garden and Tropical display dome were probably my favourites out of what we saw. The overall tropical forest trail was very relaxing despite it feeling like we were in a Sauna. That night we went to Mehek an Indian restaurant as we were craving Indian, and it was quite close to our apartment. The food was amazing however I do recommend if you’re going to order rice make sure you order to share with someone as the portion was bigger than we expected.

Our third day was probably the only day we sort of had breakfast on this trip, but it was still one of my favourite food places from this trip. Andonis Café had such a wide variety of foods, which were quite big portions and beautifully displayed. I decided to get a breakfast Parmi and a drink and honestly was not sure how I managed to finish most of it. The service here was amazing, as was the food however it was a little bit more of a splurge but definitely worth the money. We headed to another art museum this time the Brisbane art museum which was quite significantly smaller so if you only have time for one art museum I would GOMA as there was a lot more to see there. That night we decided to head out to Little Red Dumpling for dinner and it was so cheap that we ended up ordering multiple items. The food was good, and we just did takeaways for whatever we couldn’t eat at that time.

On our fourth day the weather was a little bit dreary but that didn’t stop us from going out and walking around. We headed to Mi Casa for brunch as it was near one of our booked activities that we had. The service was good and we all decided to have their chicken burger which was delicious and actually ended up being quite big. We then headed to Imaginaria which is an immersive light and play experience. Walking through the different rooms were cool and seeing all the projections and displays that was set up was alluring. Molly was interacting and having conversations with the AI which was really entertaining to watch and see how it responded to her.

By the fifth day we started to feel a bit more tired but we went on. We headed to Starbucks and got a drink and then headed to Angel Aesthetics. Afterwards we headed to a cute little café next to Oasis Tattoo Studio and had a light breakfast. I got two new tattoos done by Jordy, a sternum piece and a piece on my side ribs. Her designs were beautiful, and she made it such a relaxing experience. For lunch we headed to Pigs and Whistles for lunch which was good service however the price we paid and the fish and chips we got was a little bit of a letdown. We went back to the apartment to relax a little and get ready before heading out to Eat Street. Now if you’re in Brisbane at all you absolutely have to go to Eat Street Northshore! They are usually open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night but make sure to check their website for any changes. It is basically an area with repurposed shipping containers that have been used to house many small businesses and food spots. There was a wide variety of different food places and quite a lot to see with some bands and live entertainment playing.

On the sixth day we headed to Movie World for the day. We made sure to get fast passes as it was a weekend and the lines are always long and we wanted to be able to go on rides multiple times. We did the Green lantern a few times, the DC Rivals roller coaster twice, the Superman rollercoaster twice and the Rocky mountains rapid ride twice. We did a few more different rides in between and Molly and I had a few cocktails in between too. We got sunburnt badly so the afternoon once we got home wasn’t best but Molly and I headed to some small sushi place on the corner for food. I honestly wish I remembered the name cause the owner was so kind.

On our last official day we headed to Opals Down Under as I saw online that they did a gem fossicking and scratch patch. You basically pay for a tub, and you can fill it up with as much gemstones as you can find. We then headed to Australia Zoo in hopes of seeing Robert Irwin. We did not. It was however such a great experience walking around and seeing the Crocoseum show. The animals here had massive areas unlike the sad enclosures you see around many Zoo’s around the world including the Perth Zoo. We had lunch at the Crikey Café as we overlooked the Zoo and were able to see the crocodiles resting. In the afternoon we went to Cheeky Waffles after talking about it the whole week and honestly the experience and the waffle was really good.

The trip was a success overall and although it was sad to see it end I know I will definitely be back to the eastern states in the next few years again. To view the photos from my trip just head to the Gallery of Completed Goals and click on the Brisbane Trip 2022 folder.
